| Using the BookletsThe booklets are designed with clear and easy to follow instructions, to give the student the best opportunity to work independently either in a main stream setting where their peers are using conventional recipes or in support units where one to one support is often in place. Removable Recipe-On the back of the first page you will find a removable recipe which is written in conventional form. This recipe is for the use of the support worker who can use the recipe as a guide while supporting a student, without having to use the student's booklet. You will notice that on this recipe you will find oven settings for conventional ovens and also for gas ovens. I felt that to give students a choice within the booklets would be confusing and it would be better for you as the support worker to give guidance as to the oven setting if you are not using a conventional oven. Shopping List-The next part of the booklet is the shopping list. I am aware that not all students will do their own shopping and if this is the case with you,all you need to do is print off page one and then start printing from the page immediately after the shopping list. If you are going to use the shopping list you can print this separately for ease of taking it to the shops with you. Marker Pen-The marker pen can be used to mark each step as it's done. I decided not to do tick boxes as I feel they restrict the flow of the recipe, as I am aware that some students would be frustrated when trying to be very neat and fit a tick into a box that could be too small for their handwriting. As the booklets are laminated the student can choose to mark each step as it's done in whichever way they find easiest. This could be a stroke through the words or a circle round the picture or just a squiggle, whatever suits. It is advisable to wipe clean each booklet after the recipe is completed as if it's left for a long period, the marker pen could leave a stain on the laminate. Coloured marker pens are more likely to leave a stain so I would recommend using black. Disc-The last page is where the disc is stored and you would not need to print this page for your student's recipe booklet. The disc gives you the opportunity to re-print recipes as you need them. This means that if a student accidently ruins a booklet you don't need to start sharing or going to the expense of ordering and paying for a new booklet. You just need to print off another one. Also if a new student should join a class half way through a term, you can have a booklet printed ready for use before they actually start the class. |
